Kaula Luau – Ocean’s Edge at Ko Olina

At Ocean’s Edge in Ko Olina, Kaula Luau unfolds as more than a dinner and show. Set on an oceanfront lawn with the sunset in view, the experience weaves together family, ancestry and Polynesian tradition in one continuous story designed to draw you into the journey from beginning to end.

The heart of the production follows a kupuna, or grandmother, and her granddaughter as they travel across generations in search of their genealogy and the connections that link Hawaii, Tahiti and Samoa. Modern lighting, projections and stage effects add drama to the story while keeping the focus on the people, traditions and cultural ties at its center.

Throughout the evening, mele, oli, hula and powerful drumming carry the story forward, joined by Tahitian and Samoan music and dance. High-energy acrobatics and a fire-knife performance add excitement, while interactive activities and friendly competitions give you a chance to take part rather than simply watch from your seat.

The name Kaula means “the binding cord,” a fitting symbol for the connection between family, ancestors and a sense of home. Produced by the Hawaiian Council, this Ko Olina luau places Native Hawaiian storytelling at the center of an evening surrounded by ocean views, cultural traditions and the beauty of Hawaii’s west coast.
